In June 2013, EMS-Tech Inc. received an order to design and supply the self-unloading systems for two transshippers: the ‘Alfred Oldendorff’ and the ‘Antonie Oldendorff’.  Both 94,000 dwt post-panamax vessels were constructed at Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipyard in China.

The transshipment system is specially designed for flexibility, as it is required to deliver iron ore to a number of different ports in the Middle East including Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.  The transshipper features a long, 80+20m telescopic boom to reach shore facilities, as well as a 23.5m long boom to load into the self-unloading barges.   The EMS-Tech patented Feeder Gates located under the hoppers carefully regulate the flow of material to the system in a dust free manner at a rate not exceeding 3,500 mtph.

The vessel was officially delivered in March 2015 and started operations in April alongside the ‘E. Oldendorff’, which features a similar transshipment system.
